Choose the execution instrument#
The signal instrument and execution contract can differ. A strategy using an index signal may execute an option or future. Review the final contract details in the builder and monitor.
When expiry or strike selection is automatic, check the resolved contract instead of assuming yesterday's selection will be reused.
Expiry and strike#
Use the available expiry choices for the selected product. A specific expiry identifies a date; an automatic rule selects according to the configured policy.
For options, review the strike offset and the option side. Strike offset is not the premium you will pay. Changing it can change both the contract and how its price responds.
Lots versus quantity#
A lot groups a contract-specific number of units. For illustration, if a contract's lot size were 25 units, two lots would represent 50 units. This is arithmetic, not a statement about any current exchange lot size.
Read the current contract's lot size before interpreting exposure. Do not copy a quantity from a different instrument.
Margin and funds#
A position's size and its required margin are different quantities. Review your broker's current margin and funds information for a live order. Account balance alone does not establish that a particular order will be accepted.
If contract selection fails#
Recheck the exchange, underlying, expiry, execution type, and strike selection. If the selected contract is unavailable, resolve the selection error before starting. Include the intended contract details in a support request.
